Brief update

It has been forever since I've updated this thing. Either way, this semester has been hectic, and I've been doing a lot of playing. Things have been good, and I love living in the city with Jim. I cannot wait until this week is over so I can finally start getting into the Christmas spirit. Jim's coming home with me for Christmas, and I'm so excited. Once my jury is over with - TOMORROW MORNING AHHH! - I can relax. Anyway...just a brief update. Later.

So, Jim left yesterday evening for Germany.  He got there safely, which was wonderful.  I was so happy to hear from him this morning.   Its so strange, he's always around, we're always together....to be without him, its like a part of myself is missing.  I just hope that these couple of weeks go by quickly.  I'll be home in Jersey for them, and keeping plenty busy.  Time to dive into practicing bassoon and painting a ton of paintings.

Just want him home safely, and soon.

So, things have been going pretty well for the past couple of weeks. I'm at Temple from Mon-Thurs because of the painting class, and I go home Thursday afternoons so I can work on Fridays. I'm really glad that I am able to work this summer. Its really going to help me save up some money for things I need (groceries, books, etc.). Though I usually stay home in NJ on the weekends and go back on Sunday, I came back to campus on Friday because I wanted to spend some time with Jim, and because I have another painting project due (I have to paint a fruit/vegetable on a neutral surface).

On Friday, it poured and traffic was horrible because lanes were flooded. So, my Dad had to find an alternate route to get me to the PATCO station. It took over an hour to get there, and I definitely was an hour late getting back to Philly. When I got back, Jim made dinner (chicken parm) and we relaxed before heading out to Cafe Habana, where Jim had to work the door. We got caught in one of the worst thunderstorms I have ever seen while in the city. It poured, and there were litterally areas in the street where the water came up nearly to my knees. By the time we got there, our pants. shoes, and socks were thoroughly soaked. Luckily, I had worn a hoodie, so my t-shirt was still dry. Even though we were both cold and drenched, we actually had a good time. I'm never taking dry clothes for granted again, though.

Yesterday, Jim and I went out to the city to get a few things we needed. I was finally able to find sneakers that fit. They're purple, lavender, and red Puma trail runners, and they feel awesome. They're waterproof, too, lol. We also made a stop at Utrecht, where I was able to get a pallet and a portable aluminum easel. Afterwards, we went food-shopping, and picked up a few things for dinner. Jim made excellent buffalo burgers last night.

Today, it looks like I'll be practicing and painting all day. We picked out a beautiful orange pepper, and I'm looking forward to getting started. Luckily its not due until Wednesday, so I have time.

Later.

So...the semester is finally over.  Summer has begun...and I really have been looking forward to it for a long time.  I cannot really describe how stressful the past semester was, how much of a toll it took on me.  So much of my confidence had abandoned me in during the first half of the semester.  I picked up the pieces, and proceeded to turn things around and bring my level of musical ability to the next level...regain what I had lost.  I have played better than I had ever thought I could during the latter half of the semester.  Its been quite an experience in musical growth.  However, the additional school work was just overwhelming, to the point where I was anxious and ill on a consistent basis.  Still, with the encouragement of family and a wonderful boy I love so much, I was able to get through it...once again, better than I thought possible.

Now, summer's here, and I'm taking a painting course, which is SOOOOO much fun.  I've never painted before with oils...only tempera (pardon my spelling) paints (which...kind of don't really count).  The teacher is excellent, and I have found painting to be really relaxing.

I've also found an AMAZING bocal.  Angela and Pete were nice enough to take an hour and listen to all 8 of the bocals I ordered to try, and really helped me choose the one that best suits my bassoon.  The bocal cleans up my sound so much, and should really better my playing.  It magnifies even the slightest flaw in my technique, so I have to practice so my technique is absolutely pristine.  There's no room for error with that clean of a sound.

Did I mention that its been 14 months since I fell in love with the most wonderful person I have ever known?  He has been amazing through everything, and has really helped me through the toughest times this year.  I couldn't have made it without him.  He really completes me in every way, and always knows how to add light and happiness to my darkest days.  We're planning on moving in together this summer, hopefully in an apartment in Center City.  I can't wait.

And that's about it for now.  I have to sub tomorrow at Settlement, and practice tons when I get back.  Later!
